I am excited to offer an All Positions Camp for players in U7, U9 and U11.

As my Defenceman camp has grown, improved and evolved I have realised that the same basic approach that I use to help defencemen improve their games could help all skaters.  The skill level of players at all ages has improved but the basic skills can't be forgotten.

I believe that through the levels from U7-U11 there needs to be work on all the areas of the game. Skating, shooting, puck handling, passing and competing are the (5) areas we will work on throughout the week. All (5) need to be present in a player for them to really contribute to the team game.

The camps will have very little down time for the skaters. Although coaching instruction is important, players also need to get the reps and then be corrected during the reps with review of similar skills over the week camp.   

The players will have a good time on the ice and then transition to the off ice where the focus will be on stickhandling, coordination and depending of the age some games and off ice hockey game play instruction.

Learning to play Defence takes time and specific coaching geared towards making the game easier to play. From experience, I know there isn't always time in practice for a team's coach to dedicate a ton of time to D specific practice work.

We break down the position by teaching and working on the basic areas of the position. 1 vs 1, breakouts, net front battles and shooting from the point are very important skills for Dmen. These happen repeatedly for Dmen over the course of the game. Within those 4 areas of playing D there are many skills within them that are required to be able to do them like stick and body positioning, pivots, timing, etc.

We look forward to getting to spend time with the players, to break the game down, teach them and then work them through tons of reps to reinforce the new skills so that they can take a step towards being a stronger D man for their teams!
